NCLA Review - The title, of course, is the number of seconds in a day; but beyond that, it represents the 86400 Movement, which is developing seminars, workbooks, and journals to help individuals embrace this way of thinking. The focus is on purpose management, not time management. The author says that only by mastering your purpose can you maximize the impact you make each day. If individuals are to embrace this theory, they must first look at their pasts, both successes and failures, to help decide their futures. The premise is that it is a life that needs managing, not the seconds in a day. According to Lavette, ten key areas must be explored: forgiveness, wisdom, dedication, balance, imagination, thankfulness, patience, faithfulness, generosity, and courage. The basic idea is interesting but stops short of explaining how individuals can decide how every second of each day will be spent. Each chapter ends with a famous person commenting on the subject matter of that chapter and questions called Your Next 600 Seconds. A web site to the 86400 Movement is also included.
