1551 The Roman Catholic Church in Ireland and the Fall of Parnell 1888-1891, by Emmet Larkin (read 16 Feb 1980) This is the second volume of Emmet Larkin's work on the Catholic Church's role in Irish political life, this volume dealing with the years 1888 to 1891. Archbishop Walsh emerges as the leader of the Irish hierarchy, with Archbishop Croke of Cashel playing a strong role. The account of the fall of Parnell is as usual full of interest. I am extremely fascinated by Irish history.
