This book is intended for children but I as a newbie to the Bible found it fascinating. The illustrations are great and the amount of data covered is wonderful.

OK, there are some truly quirky stories in here, but nothing particularly new. The writer writes with an easy style, making it easy to read, but I could do without the excessive piety. The writing is, in fact, a simplistic style, the sort of writing that you can almost hear Mr. Rogers reading, the sort of writing that appeals in Sunday School. The author makes funny statements about 90% agreement among Biblical scholars (any writer who finds 90% agreement among Biblical scholars on ANYTHING has obviously ignored all the Biblical scholars who don't agree with him). He misrepresents the world we currently live in as some sort of secular hell wrapped up in a materialistic mind-warp, doing like most apologists do and confusing the materialism of science (there is a material world, and phenomena have a natural explanation) with materialism as defined socially (everyone out for everything they can get, and happiness wrapped up in possession of increasingly more material goods). He also makes statements that are true howlers, such as when he indicates that people in the modern world aren't fooled by magicians (he needs to start reading more James Randi). Overall, the stories were fun and interesting, and the book is valuable as a look at how Bible-believing Christians really think, but there are better treatments of this topic, such as Jonathan Kirsch's wonderful "Harlot by the side of the Road".… (más)
