Mama God and Papa God create the world. In the end they create people and make them all different. They decide to have these people speak different languages so they can "live their lives learning about each other.
Themes -- creation, cultural diversity, acceptance
The creation story and the pictures were okay. I felt the transition to world peace was unnatural, forced and preachy.

"As usual I received this title free for the purposes of review. Also as usual I give my candid thoughts below.

The book is essentially a myth centered around a Caribbean island and a mysterious old woman who sells her wares in the town but returns each day to her home on the mountain.

On the positive side, the illustrations exhibit amazing detail and are a riot of color. The meticulousness with which they are constructed is mind-boggling. The story is fairly simple but demonstrates a positive enough lesson in friendship.

To the negative, some of the illustrations are downright creepy and I could see a smaller child having a very negative reaction. Also, while the story is straightforward I'm not sure it really has enough twists and turns to keep kids engaged. It's a possibility but not a sure thing by far.

In summary, a graphically diverse and detailed book but with a very straightforward storyline that may leave some readers unengaged."

Grenada.

With jewel-tone illustrations featuring alebrije-like animals and people, this is a very beautiful morality tale about generosity. While the pictures sometimes don't have anything to do with the action, they are still pleasing and contribute to a strong visual sense of the story.

Myth. This is a Caribbean creation story about Mama God and Papa God and how they made the Earth. They not only create people, light and animals they animals they also create people of different colors. They scatter the people all over the earth and descend into the heavens. This is a great book for teaching diversity and creation myths. The cultural aspect of this book is also a great resource for teaching different cultural beliefs.
