Josiah Reynolds is thrilled for her friends Lady Elsmere and Shaneika Mary Todd as their bringing their horse stock together, breeding them and having a feisty new foal delivered to them by dam Jean Harlow. The foal is broad-chested and holds everyone's hopes for a derby winner - maybe even a Kentucky Derby winner. As the happy breeders visit the paddock where mamma and foal are ensconced, their hopes are dashed as they discover the foal missing and nowhere to be found. Who could have stolen the foal and why?

Although this was my first foray into the Josiah Reynolds Mystery series, I was gratefully not asea as I read this nineteenth in series novella. It provided enough background material to provide sufficient framework from which to understand the characters' relationships with one another. The writing is solid and much is delivered in a short and compact story. There are enough red herrings to keep the reader guessing over the course of the book. The author is well versed in bee matters and understands the horse derby crowd to a tee. The story was informative and most entertaining.

I am grateful to author Abigail Keam for having provided a complimentary e-copy of this book through LibraryThing Early Reviewers. Her generosity, however, has not influenced this review - the words of which are mine alone.

Book 2 about Josiah Reynolds, beekeeper. It follows her recovery after her being pulled of a cliff. She now is always in pain, wears a hearing aid, uses a cane and has trouble remembering. She then gets involved in solving the death of a teenager that drowned in the river. An easy and enjoyable read.

Review of Death by theft by Abigail Keam. First mystery of this author I have read. There is no lull anywhere. Josiah, a beekeeper, is neighbors with a friend who breeds Kentucky Derby foals. When Josiah is going to be shown the foal, it is missing. It was not weaned. Josiah 's daughter is drawn into the hunt. The Security guard found murdered. The Adventure begins looking for the murderer and the foal. You are kept guessing til revealed. A very good mystery. It will leave you wanting more.
