Jane Juska was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on March 7, 1933. She taught English for more than three decades at Ygnacio Valley High School, Saint Mary's College of California, and San Quentin State Prison. After retiring, she placed a personal ad in the New York Review of Books about wanting a lot mostrar más of sex before turning 67. The ad was a success, leading to numerous flings with men of all ages. She wrote a memoir about her experiences entitled A Round-Heeled Woman: My Late-Life Adventures in Sex and Romance, which was published in 2003. Her second memoir, Unaccompanied Women, recounted the loneliness in her life before conceiving of the ad. She died after a long illness on October 24, 2017 at the age of 84. A Round-Heeled Woman: My Late-Life Adventures in Sex… por Jane Juska

I bought this book on a whim because I thought it sounded light and I was in the mood to laugh. I mean, the misadventures of a retired grandma going on lots of blind dates? Shouldn't that be comical? Like, the female version of Grumpy Old Men or something? In actuality, this is a pretty heavy book and not for the reasons you might think (or not JUST for those reasons). The author had a rough life and a good portion of the book is spent documenting her most painful experiences.

So, not the beach read I thought it was. A better title for this book would be: A Round-Heeled Woman: My Late-Life Adventures in Sex and Romance AND My Mid-Life Adventures in Alcoholism and Depression.… (más)

Interessant, auch wenn die Autorin ein ziemlich verqueres Weltbild hat.
