As well as http://www.angelfire.com/ga/zza77/temp/duncan.htm, which is the source for some of the citations below. Obviously, I've had to leave out the tracks which have been officially released on Heart And Soul. And while 'No More Ceremonies' does include this in full, it's a vastly inferior version, though I suspect it originates from a different audience master. This has always been attributed as a first generation copy from master, but I suspect this may instead have been directly transferred from the analog masters given that the taper was still active as of 2002 and there's little in the way here to suggest that this was dubbed onto another cassette. But as with a lot of things to do with Joy Division, the truth is shrouded in seven veils of mystery. In any event, the sound here should be an improvement on the "Komackino" boot. And the tracks which, alas, I'm unable to improve, are certainly an improvement on the official issue, which sound like they were taken from a higher generation source and subjected to the sort of treatment to disguise its origins. You can contact me privately if you need proof. :) As such the levels seem to be unbalanced towards the right channel, with some clipping. This is LOUD. But don't let that detract from your enjoyment. I've done absolutely nothing to this recording, but if you listen at about 0:10 and 3:30 of Incubation (the soundcheck version) to hear a shift in hiss background levels. This can also be heard at the start/end of the soundcheck version of Komakino as well. Don't quite know what to make of it, maybe you lot can help. The performance...is unreal. There's excellent reason why half of this concert was selected to be immortalized in the box set, though I sometimes wonder if they chose the right half. The intro to LWTUA is asexplosive as they ever achieved live. And Komakino is a vastly underrated song in their canon, too bad they managed to play it live only here. And who am I to gainsay Duncan who says that "These Days has always been Joy Division's hidden masterpiece"? And, in his view, "I think the encore here was the best ten minutes of Joy Division live I ever saw with the spinning, the clear sound, Ian's performance in Atrocity Exhibition was so close to the edge. He was hanging on to he mic when he was singing as if it was a life line beckoning the crowd in as he sang "you want to see some more, step inside", "go in all the way" he was again helped off the stage by the roadie leaving the band to play out." This is a group at its live apotheosis. Simply awe-inspiring! DO NOT SELL OR OTHERWISE LEVERAGE THIS RECORDING FOR MONETARY PROFIT. MAY THE SHADE OF IAN CURTIS HAUNT YOUR DREAMS IF YOU SELL THIS ON EBAY. PLEASE SHARE THIS IN ITS ORIGINAL FORMAT ONLY.… (más)
