Mark Johnstone

Featuring the work of 45 contemporary artists working in Southern California, including John Baldessari, Ed Ruscha and David Hockney, each artist is represented with a brief synopsis of not more than a page of text, along with a few reproductions of his or her work.

There is also a twenty page introduction setting the scene for art in Southern California, and the book concludes with a brief biography for each of the featured artists.

For each artists there is one full page colour reproduction followed generally by three or four further examples in black and white, sometimes two or more to the page. This is a large format book and the quality of printing is generally good, but with only one full colour plate for each artist it is out of keeping with today's standards, and the overall design is mediocre, resulting in a somewhat lack lustre production.… (más)
