This is a classic example of a Civil War state history, and one wishes there were more like it. It emphasizes the state's government, economy, and society with adequate summaries of the military action within the state. It is written in that wonderfully pellucid style which American historians tended to favor during the 1950's and '60's. There is a minimum of analysis, which is fine since the issues which the state's political and military authorities are straightforward enough that the reader can be assumed fit to draw their own conclusions.… (más)
