The title suggests this book should be accessible to those who study a science and not mathematics, but who need mathematics for what they do.

Unfortunately that was not my impression of this book (although ot has gone through several revisions since I read it, so one can hope it has improved). Much of the mathematics is certainly useful to engineers and scientists, but it is not written in an accessible manner. I frequently found myself asking "why" when reading this book, and not finding the answers to my questions.

Most scientists, in any case, would be better starting with something like "practical statistics", and then approaching the pure maths as they discover holes in thier knowledge.

The book is really aimed at those sciences where the pure maths is more essential than the statistics. It is aimed at a definite market - I just did not feel it reached it.

Having said that - your mileage may vary. Maths is strange. Some maths books I just connect with and have no problem with, and others I don't. Other people may have the opposite experience to me though!… (más)
