While the book is short and has a lot of tips that might be useful, it has no story at all, and the author has no writing ability (or charisma, for that matter). It's just one long check list.
Beyond that, I can't get over how the author keeps giving me the impression of being an obnoxious and arrogant foot soldier of American imperialism. Despite how highly he praises his linguistic achievements, he seems to have very little genuine respect for the countries he's lived in, and that's very off putting to a language student I would expect.
