Association of Illustrators

Besides whatever monographs, ephemera etc. the Association of Illustrators (AOI, est. 1973) has published over the years, they have also published the following series of periodicals:

'Images', published to coincide with the annual exhibition of the work featured in it. At least no's 1-35 (1976-2011). Initially simply entitled 'The Association of Illustrators' third annual' etc., the sub-title added to the 4th and 5th volumes, ': the best of British illustrators', seems to have caused legal problems, resulting in the AOI settling on the new title 'Images' for their sixth volume (1981).

'Newsletter' (vol. 1, no's 1-?; vol. 2, no's 1-5), change of title to 'Illustrators' (vol. 2, no's 6-7; vol. 3, no's 8-9); change of numbering system (no's 21-at least 69) (1974-1989). Bi-monthly. (ISSN 0307-319X).

'The Journal' (at least 2002-2005, during which period no's are dated but un-numbered). Bi-monthly. Presumably the successor to 'Illustrators'.

'Varoom', the AOI's current magazine (2006-date (2020)), presumably the successor to 'The Journal', although more ambitious, but not as regular in its publication. (ISSN 1750-483X).

According to 'Images 6' (1981), AOI then published the bi-monthly 'Illustrators' magazine, a newsletter, 'Despatch', and the annual 'Images'. 'Images 9' (1984, p. 6) refers to the quarterly journal 'Illustrators' and the monthly newsletter 'Despatch'.
