I loved this book: comprehensive, authoritative, and best of all, accessibly written. I knew next to nothing about Greek art but was curious about black-figure pottery and hadn't been able to find a book that wasn't just a soup of dates and technical terms. I learned a tremendous amount from Hurwit, who does a great job of placing the technical and formal development of Greek art within Greek culture, and does so in an engaging style.
