Mick Houghton

Mick Houghton has written a revealing biography of Sandy Denny, an English singer from the 1960s and 70s who started as a folk singer and during her career broadened her repertoire by writing her own songs and adding those of other contemporaries, such as Bob Dylan. Houghton’s extensive research has drawn on written resources from the time and he has also interviewed many of the musicians and record company executives with whom she worked. Although he recognises her great musical ability and potential, he does not ignore her insecurity, unpredictability and vulnerability and how she often manipulated others. In a very readable account, he chronicles her short, frustrated but brilliant career that ended with her death in somewhat clouded circumstances that reflected her life.… (más)
