Written in 1956 and set in 1957 near the peak of the cold war, Extinction Bomber is essentially a novel of thought experimentation - if the order to drop a nuclear bomb on Russia was given, what would the air crew do knowing following that order may provoke a retaliation from Russia.

It's an interesting story that is now dated in both its setting and style of writing, however it was still of interest in that it gave a glimpse into the mindset of people in the late 50s when the potential for catastrophic nuclear war seemed just around the corner.

It's quite a rare book, but worth a read should you stumble across it and enjoy older military fiction.½
