NCLA Review -Honeycutt provides readers with 44 insightful and engaging devotional essays. Each essay reflects on and illuminates a given Biblical passage. The essays are arranged according to the church calendar including chapters for Advent/ Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and the Time After Pentecost. Each essay is followed by a few reflection questions that would be appropriate for individual or group use. Honeycutt's essays read like mini-sermons. One of the strengths of his writing is that he strikes the right balance between providing the reader with contextual or historical information about the Bible passage and providing insights from his own life. The essays take an informal, sometimes humorous, tone and are a pleasure to read. The book's subtitle is "Unusual Bible Stories for New and Curious Christians". I'm not sure that the stories here are all that unusual; some of them are quite familiar. But I do agree that new Christians and Christians not accustomed to reading the Bible will find this book to be a helpful entry point into regular devotional practice.
