This story is a classic example of a folklore. Through the simplistic characters of forest animals, it easily teaches great lessons to its readers. It shows children what boasting and showing off can get you through the bear and what happens to him at the end of the story. It also shows the ugliness of envy through the fox and his actions. Its use of simple language and short sentences makes it a great story for beginning readers.

The little fir tree wants nothing more than to become a Christmas tree, for that is the very best thing a fir tree could be. But the little fir tree wasn’t tall and beautiful like the other fir trees.

One day the little fir tree was dug up. “Now I’ll never be a Christmas tree,” it thought. “I’m going to be a shrub.”

But there is a big surprise in store for the little fir tree.

Parents will enjoy sharing this delightful tale with their young children. The holiday spirit captured here will bring a smile to everyone’s face.

Recommended.
