Tarek Heggy was born in Port Said, Egypt, in 1950. He studied law and management at Ain Shams University, Cairo and Geneva University, Switzerland. He was a lecturer at a number of universities from 1971 to 1979, an oil and gas international agreements expert from 1979 to 1988, and the chairman of mostrar más one of the major petroleum companies from 1988 to 1996. He is the author of thirteen books in Arabic, combining academic, cultural and economic dimensions. His books advocate the values of modernity, democracy, cultural tolerance and the universality of knowledge and science.
