The film, made in the mid-70's, employs the older misnomer "Indian" for Native Americans, which some viewers may find troubling, but the word is appropriate to the times depicted in the film. Despite the use of the term "Indian," which some may find jarring, the film has its merits and is worth viewing. It stresses the importance of peace, of dialogue, and of different perspectives. The movie can serve as a springboard for discussion about conflict and the effects of history upon generations to come.

The Nez Perce Indians take on the entire western division of the U.S. Army in this true story of heroics, strategies and faith. After refusing to live in the confines of a reservation, the Nez Perce Indian tribe make their move to the wild mountains of Canada much to the opposition of the U.S. Cavalry.
