I tried to pick this one up from my great teetering pile o' mysteries some time ago, but I had literally just put down a book by an author I really like and am really familiar with, and Town in a Blueberry Jam suffered by being started so hot on the heels of the other book. I was disappointed with it, so I put it back in the pile. I just took it out again a few days ago wanting something a bit different, and this time it grabbed me and wouldn't let go! Pages and pages flew by as I got caught up in the place, the characters, and the multi-layered story! So I suppose the lesson I learned was to give myself a little bit of breathing space between books, so the second book doesn't suffer. I am really looking forward to Town in a Lobster Stew now!… (más)

Town In A Maple Madness is the 8th book in the A Candy Holliday Mystery series.

Another exciting story featuring Candy and her dad, Doc, and their friends in Cape Willington, Maine.

Spring is near and sap is running and the residents of Cape Willington are looking forward to the Maple Madness Weekend and the opening of a renovated warehouse that will be used as a community center. But as the crowd is beginning to assemble for the opening ceremonies the crowd needs to be dispersed as the body of a local landscaper, Mick Rilke, has just been pulled out of the river close by. Just the day before, Hutch Milbright informed Candy that her neighbor and friend, Neil Crawford has been stealing sap from his trees. Candy begins to look at Milbright’s trees and at Crawford’s property and begins to think that someone had been tapping his trees, but she is sure that it wasn’t Crawford. As she is following recent tire tracks she soon believes that the two events might in some way be related. But she needs to find out soon before another attempt is made on her life.

Another well- written story from B. B. Haywood with most all of regularcharacter coming back once again.

Delicious recipes are also included with the book.

Looking forward to the next book in the series.

This was a light cozy mystery that didn't satisfy. It was okay, but it didn't make me want to read the next one.

Town In A Strawberry Swirl is the fifth book in the Candy Holliday Murder Mystery series.

I really enjoy this series and part of the reason is that the authors add a little information on the growing of Blueberries. I don't have a garden, but enjoy reading about what goes into the process gardening/farming.

A neighboring strawberry grower has asked Candy's dad to come over to over to talk and when Doc Holliday arrives he finds Miles dead, by a blow to the head and the shovel that did it came from the Holliday farm. Candy and Doc were able to determine that they has lost a similar shovel a few months before. But still, Candy wants to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that they had nothing to do with the murder.

There is a rumor going round that Miles was in the process of selling his strawberry farm. As Candy is approaching the farm, after receiving a call from her dad, she nearly run off the road by Mile's real estate agent. When Candy gets wind of the work that the Cape Willington Historical Protection League is doing, it only adds more suspects. The leagues goal is block the sale, possibly using what ever means to accomplish this.

Doc's cronies don't get to help in this book, much. Candy has become interim editor at the Cape Crier and as such has made her nemesis, Wanda Boyle, a reporter. Must be what Wanda wanted, as she isn't as prickly in this book

A very enjoyable book and series.

Looking forward to the next one.
