Sobre El Autor

Alden Hayes referred to himself as a "failed farmer, bankrupt cattleman, sometime smoke-chaser, one-time park ranger, and would-be archaeologist"--typically tongue-in-cheek for a multi-faceted man who had many scholarly archaeological publications to his credit. He died in 1998.

An older (1975) work. Pecos National Historical Park (it was Pecos National Monument when this book was written) is an evocative place; it was the easternmost Pueblo until its abandonment in 1838 and was the site of an important civil war battle in 1862. Although some of the Native American pueblo has been excavated and restored, the most imposing feature is the ruins of the Spanish colonial era church, the last of four built at the site. This book documents archaeological work done on the church up until the publication date, and is interesting enough given that it’s a scholarly study rather than a page-turner. For more on Pecos, see Kiva, Cross, and Crown; for more on the Battle of Glorieta Pass, see The Civil War in New Mexico, Distant Bugles, Distant Drums, and The Battle of Glorieta Pass.… (más)
