A later edition of this book appears to be subtitled "This book will give you confidence on the outcome of the war". Well, on the strength of the contents of this (first?) edition, anyone with a clear idea of the forces against us would have had no confidence whatsoever! The military technology that British armed forces had access to in 1939-40 was woefully inadequate. I accept that this is with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, but you only have to look at the double-spread illustration on pp.344-345 of "modern armour" to see how far we were outclassed by the machines that Germany was putting into the field at that time. (And of course, the areas where we were in advance of Germany, such as radar, were still secret at this time.)… (más)
