Animal Naps por Catherine Ham
Based on the cover, I was expecting a book of photographs of animals sleeping, more of an art book than a picture book. The content, however, is more cutesy picture book than art book. The photos themselves are smaller than I expected, with some pages having more than one photo, and the photos are accompanied by short poems about the animals. I would have much preferred if the photos had been close to the size of the page, and if the poems, graphical elements, and large captions had been left out.… (más)
Disappointing. A good idea, with beautiful photography, but the rhymes don't scan well, and use of the generic male for animals (except the mouse) is problematic.
This book details a variety of many different animal homes. Some of the animals include: spiders, wasps, elephants, and warthogs. In this book, the reader can find information on each animal's descriptive attributes, living environment, and food. The words are written in the style of poetry with short lines and rhymes that can assist a child's guided reading because they can predict upcoming words which helps with comprehension skills.
This book is fun and educational. This book describes MANY different animals and their habitats. An activity I did with this book was compare and contrast two of the student's favorite animal homes-- the spider's trap door and the Blue Heron's beach house. This book is a great example for miscue analysis and shared reading due to the predictive element and rhymes.
