Technically, The Helsingør Sewing Club is almost perfect. No grammar mistakes, no imperfections, good syntax—Gyland’s writing skills are superior to the average. The characters are interesting too, with a captivating mix of sympathetic vs. unsympathetic in both timelines; plus, Inger and Cecile have powerful personalities, and they read as flawless as they can be. My favorite part is the historical one, but that’s just a matter of personal tastes.

A Lion is Not Just for Christmas is such a lovely story. At 134 pages it's not a long one but it's packed with romance and intrigue.

I loved the background story of the circus that Justine's family were part of and when that disbanded I enjoyed it when Justine accompanied Rexus the lion to his new home at Lord Brooks' menagerie. Such interesting settings that combined to make this a fabulous story to read. How many books have a lion as a character?

Justine is an excellent protagonist. She's strong and brave, thinking nothing of getting quite close to the big cats. I really liked her interactions with Tom, the groundsman, and how they became closer as the story progressed. Not to mention her run-ins with Priscilla, and Priscilla and Henry's children's preoccupations with the lion.

There are secrets that I can only hint at without giving too much away, but I thought how the whole thing came together was really clever. It's a feel good story with some fascinating characters and a really interesting storyline. I found it a pleasure to read and liked Henriette Gyland's style very much.

I kept wondering and wondering, yes this book brought me quite the mystery to solve.

Lia is a doctor who comes to Norfolk to settle her grandmother's estate as her mother refuses too. Yes drama at the beginning. Lia is smart, sensible, but with a few issues from her past.

Norfolk is painted as harsh, those who live there, well live there, they know the land. But it fits well with the story, because something is going on. Someone was watching Lia's grandmother, and did someone kill her? That is the mystery. Because strange things keep on happening while Lia stays there.

There is also a friendship that slowly builds, a friendship that might or might not lead to romance. Aidan has his own issues from the war, and there is secrets he is keeping too. Those I did figure out..after a while. I also liked how their story was built, there was friendship and something that could be more. It was real.

The mystery was good, so many questions and so many different roads to take.

A good suspense novel, with a hint of romance.
