Lucinda Gosling studied history at the University of Liverpool. She has contributed articles on illustration, royal history and the First World War to various publications and is the author of Brushes and Bayonets, a survey of Great War cartoons from the Illustrated London News archive.

The is a very good picture book, with quite a bit of text. I feel that the humor, on a devastating subject like war, is very well handled. It has a 'Glossary of Illustrators', with brief biographies, and an index.

To me a book's dimensions are height, depth and thickness. This book is too deep. It is cumbersome too handle and a pain for the average bookshelf. A good coffee table book.

On page 123, the left half, the book has '... 250,000 British soldiers lost limbs during the World War I (sic).' But, on page 146, the right half, it has '... 41,000 British soldiers lost limbs during World War I.'… (más)
