Sunny McCoskey is the chef and owner of Wildside, a small restaurant in the Napa valley area of Northern California's wine country. She also has a recent reputation of solving mysteries...even if it has only been one.

When Nathan Osborn, owner of the posh Vinifera restaurant, is found dead at home, Sunny can't seem to shake the feeling that a heart attack is the real reason for the death. Even if the coroner lists it as the reason, Sunny feels there is more to the story.

Along with this new mystery she also has been introduced to Andre Morales, an up and coming chef who is not only great in the kitchen but also in the bedroom. Torn between spending time with Andre and tracking down the possible murderer puts Sunny in between a rock and and hard spot.

Sunny's feeling that the smashed bottle, found at the scene, the missing bottle that Nathan had had his last drink out of and the possibility of poison being the cause of the heart attack makes for some hard choices.

The story moves along at a good clip, and the backdrop of the story is pleasant. There are enough curves and detours to make it not so simple to figure out, yet to so obtuse to make you lose interest.

For whatever reason, this book didn't work for me. Sunny McCoskey owns a restaurant in the Napa Valley, but instead of spending the time at her own restaurant, she is spending all her time at another one in the area where one of the owners turns up dead. In spite of overwhelming evidence that the owner merely suffered a heart attack, she is determined to pursue her own investigation because she's convinced it is murder. I found the characters to be lacking as well as the mystery itself. I am pretty sure that I have another book downloaded by this author on my Kindle from a time they were offered for free or cheap. I won't be reading it. Life's too short to waste by reading books you don't enjoy. This one came close to being abandoned.… (más)

A quick read with some tidbits about wine and food. A who-done-it set in Napa with a little bit of romance. The murder of a local wine dealer is connected to wine fraud. Was it the sommelier, bartender, waitress.... A local chef tries to solve the mystery, hoping that her current love interest, the chef at the restaurant in which the deceased is part owner. Predictable, but good airplane read. This was an Early Reader book.
