Coretta Scott King provides a moving introduction to this captivating biography of the African American adventurer, Matthew Henson. King emphasizes the fact that in addition to having remarkable accomplishments, excellence in a person also requires generosity, love, and moral strength. These qualities are shown to be held in abundance by Henson, whose empathy with the Arctic Eskimos provided him with much support as he struggled to survive in the far north.
