This was the book that launched die-cast collecting. Cecil Gibson was reputed to have the best collection in the UK, with (effectively) one of everything made in Britain, plus many other oddities from around the world. He wrote a column in the long-defunct magazine 'Model Cars' and was regarded as one of the few experts in the field at the time. This book looks at the story of Dinky, from its inception by Frank Hornby (of 'Meccano' fame) as accessories to his popular 'O' gauge tinplate trains, through the heyday of diecast cars as toys - only later to become collectible - through to the end of the original Meccano company and their acquisition by Lines Brothers of the rival Tri-ang empire. Dinky continued, though the name petered out in the early 2000s following a number of changes in ownership.

This book is a detailed but literate history of production, plus a listing.
