Actress Estelle Getty was born Estelle Scher in New York City on July 25, 1923. During her career, she appeared on stage, in television and in film. In 1982, she played the mother of Arnold Beckoff in Torch Song Trilogy on Broadway. Her best known television role was playing Sophia Petrillo on the mostrar más sitcom The Golden Girls for which she won an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award. She also played the mother in the following movies: Mask, Copacabana, and Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot. She wrote an autobiography with Steve Delsohn entitled If I Knew Then, What I Know Now... Well..... this wasn't bad but this wasn't amazing. It's all humor, no plot, and not much of a memoir (but then again I'm not sure if it was meant to be one). It jumps all over the place and has lots of witticisms, but not a lot of "content." I think the only people who would get a huge kick out of this are Golden Girl fans and short Jewish mothers (her words not mine). She talks about acting, Hollywood, her marriage, being a mother, her friends, and what it's like being short. Nothing earth shattering. A perfectly okay book with a couple of really funny quips.… (más)
