Some great recipes that are easy to follow and have easy to find ingredients! I'll definitely be making some of them.

Eh, I wasn't that impressed. None of the recipes or stories called out to me making me want to make them.

If you're looking to add to your recipe cache, this is a great book to delve into. Some of the recipes can be a bit pricey to source, depending on where you live, but others are within most budgets.

Like so many cookbooks, beautiful photography, and high-quality glossy paper are the most attractive features of go-to dinners. The organization of the text is logical, and the directions are easy to follow. However, the selection of recipes is uninspiring. This book fails to offer anything that would merit shelf space in your cookbook collection.½

I couldn't wait to get this cookbook because Ina wrote it during the pandemic. So many authors we are reading now are including a note page on how they wrote and created books while stuck at home! Ina Garten says she hates left overs but during this time had to figure out what she calls "two-fors" , get two meals out of one. It is a great book and has some wonderful recipes and new ideas for an easy meal time. She also includes her thoughts on why entertaining guests is so important to her as it is to me and my loved ones.

It appears from other reviews that Modern Comfort Food appeals to regular viewers of Garten’s Barefoot Contessa on Food Network. Still, I found the book to be a disappointment for several reasons. Almost every recipe calls for an esoteric ingredient typical cooks are unlikely to have on hand. Readers are left to research substitutions on their own. Garten specifies brand names for many ingredients. I understand product placement is a lucrative source of income, but the emphasis here exceeds anything I have seen in other cookbooks. Frankly, it detracted from my enjoyment. However, the bottom line for any cookbook is whether I found recipes I would like to prepare. Here too, the book falls short. Several dishes I love are included, but I would never use the recipes provided.½

Ina Garten, one of my favorite TV cooks, offers this new recipe collection. Grouped into cocktails, lunch, dinner, vegetables & sides, dessert, and breakfast, featured menu items include cider and alcoholic beverages, appetizers, soups, salads, pasta dishes, seafood, vegetable "casseroles" such as ones you'd find at a church potluck, cookies, cakes, Boston cream pie, cereals, muffins, hash browns, and even iced coffee. Everyone will find something of interest. I've made dishes similar to some of these, but I'm certain to try a few of these in the new year. I may deviate from her recipes when they call for something like mustard or mushrooms, ingredients I can eat but don't really like well enough to want to add in a dish. (Besides I'm allergic to funguses, so avoiding mushrooms is something I should do.) Those things are easy enough to leave out, and sometimes an ingredient substitution can be made. I love Ina's cookbooks, and this one combines great photography with usable recipes.

I read this and used it for The Tasting Table Cookbook Club on facebook. It is a great cookbook to have!

I am not highly skilled but I have taken a few cooking classes. Ina's recipes are inspiring. They are not filled with items I don't recognize nor do I feel I have to run out and buy new appliances. I feel I can easily follow her suggestions without any panic or burning down the house.

In the tradition of all “Jewish” mothers, Ina Garten finds the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Among the many delicious recipes in her newest book you can find the perfect potato pancakes, smoked salmon pizzas, homemade chicken stock, brisket with onions and leeks, kasha varnishkes, tsimmes, challah, and the best bourbon honey cake. Although this is not a strictly “Jewish” cookbook there are many “Jewish” favorites here with Ina’s touch, making this a great go-to resource. In addition, you will also love the shared story of her courtship and marriage to Jeffrey and the early days of her namesake restaurant that make this book and its recipes so endearing.

Another beautiful Barefoot Contessa cookbook! In this cookbook, Ina includes tips for making every single recipe ahead, even whipped cream and roasted turkey! Ina shows us how we can have easy and elegant food suitable for any occasion. The accompanying photographs of the food and her home are gorgeous, and will make fans envy Ina's life in the Hamptons.

Once upon a time I collected cookbooks and actually used them. Now I pretty much cook from memory with occasional forays onto the Internet to find recipes. I now look at cookbooks as much for the pictures as for the recipes. I do watch TV food programs and enjoy Ina Garten's show. So I borrowed this for the chatty stuff about the couple and the food and for the pictures. The food photographer is Quentin Bacon (one of those wonderfully apt names) and his work does not disappoint. Garten is a fun cook who is not afraid to simplify and take shortcuts. Her recipes are easy to follow and there are a couple I might try. This Zucchini and Leek Frittata sounds good.

Oh my, I open to the Contents and what do I see? I see three margaritas staring at me!

The book is easy to read, the recipes for the most part are simple to prepare, the ingredients are easy to find, the photographs are large and appetizing in appearance. Each menu title page give the number of people to be fed as well as dishes that will be served.

I was unimpressed w/ her Fireside Dinner for two, there were two dishes.... For something so "cozy" I'd not have chosen Vegetable pot pie & double chocolate pudding.....

Contents:
Introduction: "I've always wanted to give great parties....."
Spring: Sunday Breakfast; Pizza Party; Jewish Holiday; & Academy Awards
Summer: Canoe Trip; Lunch in the Garden; Happy Birthday; & Outdoor Grill
Autumn: Football Party; Autumn Dinner; Not Thanksgiving; & Afternoon Tea
Winter: New Year's Day; snow Day; Valentine's Dinner; & Fireside Dinner

There are an number of great recipes in Foolproof. One caveat, watch the salt. I found that the recipes are a touch too salty.½

I do a ton of large scale entertaining. This book is my go to for recipies and planning. Every recipie is easy to follow. Meal plans are already laid out in detail for you. You really can do eveything (almost) ahead of time and enjoy your party as much as your guest do. Another winner by Ina Garten!

The Barefoot Contessa is one of my favorite shows on the Food Network. Ina Garten manages to give her viewers a real "homey" feel and makes the art of entertaining seem easy. This cookbook achieves that same "ease" effect that her show does. With foolproof tips scattered throughout the book on a variety of topics, it is a very readable cookbook. The recipes are dishes that one actually wants to make at home. I borrowed this book from the library but I liked it so much that I plan to purchase it for myself. There are just far too many recipes that I want to try to not own my own copy.

This is beautiful cookbook, with photos of every dish and lots of helpful entertaining tips. The recipes seem easy and accessible, without having to make ridiculous quantities of food, although they do seem more geared toward entertaining than everyday eating. My favorites are the Oven-roasted Vegetables and Pan-Roasted Root Vegetables. The best chapters are Vegetables, offering several simple but tasty side dishes, and Breakfast of course. The Country French Omelet and Sunrise Smoothies earned rave reviews from my family. This is a keeper cookbook to break out for special family dinners and having guests over.

As I am obsessed with all thing Ina, I can not help but give this 5 stars.. Now that does not mean I did not actually read the text because I did and although I have not been able to cook ALL the recipes yet .... given we need to eat everyday I am confident that I will one day. And I am confident they will be uber delish as Ina has not let me down yet.

Most importantly- I can not wait until the next Ina supper club meets in September and we celebrate life, friends, family and some awesome food a la Ina family Style !

Great recipes with a short intro to each one. She writes like she talking to you. Several great short stories on shopping, creating a menu, decorating and much more.
