Academic Year 2010-2011 Fellow Dario Gamboni is professor of art history at the University of Geneva, after teaching at the University of Lyon-II (1991-97), Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland (1998-2000) and the University of Amsterdam (2001-2004). He was a member of the Institut Universitaire de France (1993-1998), Ailsa Mellon Bruce Fellow at CASVA, Washington, D.C. (1996), Meret Oppenheim Prize 2006, Paul Mellon Visiting Fellow at CASVA (2009), and Senior Research Fellow at the Henry Moore Institute (2010). He was also a guest professor at the universities of Strasbourg, Frankfurt, Buenos Aires, Freiburg, Mexico, Sao Paulo, and Tokyo, as well as at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris. He has curated and co-curated several exhibitions, most recently Une Image Peut en Cacher Une Autre. Arcimboldo – Dalí – Raetz (2009). He has published many books and articles, mostly on nineteenth- and twentieth-century art, including La Plume et le Pinceau. Odilon Redon et la Littérature (1989, updated English version forthcoming), The Destruction of Art: Iconoclasm and Vandalism since the French Revolution (1997), and Potential Images: Ambiguity and Indeterminacy in Modern Art (2002). At the Clark, he will be writing a book on Paul Gauguin’s use of visual ambiguity.

cultural vandalism. "man at the cross roads." The Rockefeller-Rivera dispute is covered in the films Cradle Will Rock and Frida. Diego Rivera was Nelson Rockefeller's mommy's favorite saying was New Frontiers. Rockefeller wanted the painting to make people pause and think Man the controller of the Lenin drape.
