Paul Gallet

A personal and moving account of a French priest's work in North-East Brazil. Excerpts from his letters home and his diaries between his arrival in 1962 and his transfer to a new parish in 1968 tell the horrifying story of daily life in a poverty-stricken community. He sees women who travel miles to the doctor to be sold medicines marked 'free sample: not for sale' and women who support their children by prostitution asking God to send them customers.
