This is a fun book. It I enjoyed it and shared it with my students via our school library. I even added it to the "Must Reads" list. I agree with another reader who mentioned the lack of character development, but the setting was the star of the show to a certain extent, so I wasn't overly bothered by that. I would love to read a sequel!

Although I have mixed feelings about this book, they really have nothing to do with the book itself and more about the way I read it. Overall, I enjoyed this book, but I had to put it down for long stretches of time while reading it for outside reasons. I plan on reading it again soon in a more continuous manner before rating it.

I really enjoyed this book! I had so much fun reading it I have decided to share it with my 4th graders, as a read aloud. The story moves fast and leaves the reader wanting to know what is going to happen.

I enjoyed this book, with its original, imaginative premise and sense of mystery and adventure. The idea of a nightstand that is far bigger on the inside than on the outside, which opens up into a world that connects to other special pieces of furniture, is fabulous, and combined with the mysterious disappearance of a wood-working uncle and the appearance of strange men who are looking for him make for an exciting opening to a story. I did feel a little let down toward the middle and end of the book with its uneven pacing, and because I felt like sometimes the conventions set up in the book were not entirely consistent or believable within the framework of the story. Unlike some other readers I didn't mind that the end seemed to set up a sequel, as I thought the story was self-contained enough to work on its own, but I felt that there was a lack of character development given the length of the book, which may be the reason I'm not that interested in following the characters on the rest of their adventures.… (más)
