He was the early 1800's Quaker artist who painted all those versions of "A Peaceable Kingdom", illustrating Isa. 11:6: "The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid, and the calf and the lion and the fatling together, and a little child shall lead them." He painted hundreds, but only some 40 have survived.

Selected illustrations from John James Audubon's "Quadrupeds" with biographical information, excerpts from his journals and annotations of each drawing. All black-and-white, unfortunately, but still a handsome volume showing to fine effect the work of a man nearly unmatched in artistic skill and scientific acumen in accurately portraying his subjects in natural poses.
