If there is such a thing as a Lovecraftian horror/cozy mashup then this is might be it.

Not exactly urban fantasy, since it's set in a small town... but it has many elements of urban fantasy, except for vamps and weres.

Jaspar owes Steve a favor, so travels to a mysterious small town to check out the location of its first mall. "Even cultists like convenience and low prices!" he is told.

Naturally, the mall is set over a portal to a Dungeon Dimension, and so is plagued by giant carnivorous radishes. And that's just the beginning...

Jaspar is a necromancer, not entirely human; the town has its traditional families most of whom have occult tendencies. All of this attracts both tourists and cultists, but the cultists are more of a problem.

Jaspar is a fun protagonist, who emphatically does NOT seek out heroism, but does do the Right Thing. Usually. Under duress. He mostly wants to get paid and get out... but gets involved anyway.

The townsfolk are great! Definitely eccentric, but they really don't know how eccentric they are, and just take all of the weirdness for granted.

The pacing is excellent, and I enjoyed every minute of reading this book! Highly recommended, if you like this sort of thing.

And yes, there are tentacles.
