If I ever finish this, I may revise my one-star rating. The concept is a good one, but the execution is pedestrian, cliched with a tin ear for dialogue. It's a shame because the subject obviously has resonance for the author but it's lost in a stilted and badly edited offering. Reviews which have likened this book the Philip Kerr's Bernie Gunther novels are way off the mark. I've given up at 30% and will probably stay there.
