I’ve read enough publications from Taschen’s art portfolio that I’ve become incredibly sceptical about the authorial quality, but I was happy to not find myself immediately annoyed with this book. It’s much smaller in volume than most of the other art books I’ve read, so the temptation to skip reading in lieu of absorbing strictly the artwork was much lessened and I was determined to read the book cover to cover. I did achieve this goal, but unfortunately found myself frustrated again due to the author’s hyper-focus on the aspects of sexuality that he perceived in Klimt’s work. Obviously there are many aspects of his interpretations that I agree with (for example that Klimt’s women were extremely forward in their aspect for the time period, and the way that he presented nude figures was certainly unique), but his over-use of certain terminology became tedious and at times seemed to imply a sense of disdain for female sexuality and the female form as presented by Klimt. Obviously Néret’s academic subject when it came to art critique was centered around eroticism, but I came into this book expecting an broad (but brief) overview of Klimt’s work not a detailed critique of a singular theme. Taschen may know how to style and print beautiful books, but the recurrent theme of inadequate authors seriously gets on my nerves.

A book all about terroir. Beautiful photographs of food and landscapes alike. Paging through it reminds me how rad it'll be visiting my bro when he moves to Madrid in the fall.

The only sad part of this book is that, while I picked it up for $10 in the B&N bargain bin, someone else had clearly looked through it and bent all the pages. The cover doesn't quite close anymore.

Posters are ubiquitous - from giant billboards assailing us on urban streets to A5 handbills promoting local bands. This book brings together a collection of poster designs from around the world. It is suitable for graphic designers and artists.

De werken van Gustav Klimt worden goed uitgelegd en de afbeeldingen passen daar ook goed bij. Wel is de uitleg wat summier, het boek mocht duidelijk niet te dik worden.

Culinaria books are odd hybrids between straight cookbooks on the one hand and cultural/travel photography books on the other, and this is no exception. But is found it very interesting none-the-less.

No one can say that they don't get hungry just leafing through this book. Man, do spanish peolpe know how to cook! They've got the ingredients and the god given gift. I totally reccomend this book; the recipes are excellent and the photographs are to die for. Plus it gives you a walk through Spain's main regions.

These books LOOK like food porn, but, surprisingly perhaps, are stuffed with history, recipes and other food lore. I waited a long time before getting these. I shouldn't have.

It's another coffee table book. It's a nice compact size and covers the architecte, history and design elements in simple no-nonsense language. Great introduction to this remarkable period of architectural and design history.

I have several Hungarian cookbooks, but this is the one I like best. Like all the books in the Culinaria series, it's far more than a cookbook, full of gorgeous photography and background information about food-related cultural phenomena, from Easter customs to the specialized varieties of pigs, ducks, geese, etc. raised on Hungarian farms. I love it best, though, for the recipes, which are authentic and represent a full range of traditional Hungarian dishes.

See p. 365 for three great and very different paella recipes, as well as an evocative description of the origins of paella.

Even as a (sometimes off the wagon) vegetarian, i love this book. It is more than a collection of recipes, you buy it for the reference, the writing and the illustrations. These books are definately gastro-porn.
