Never was there a more misleading subtitle to a book than this one's "A book for boys". It's not an instructional at all, but rather a sophisticated analysis for its day of baseball's tactical decisions complete with a number of primitive sabermetric examples. The anecdotes add considerable period spice for a fan of the period, who can never learn too much about the players of the time; I found the statistical analyses less interesting, but then I always do.
