This was a solid mystery suspense thriller with interesting characters and a decent plot. I love cold case mysteries so I was curious to see what this would be like.

And it was good. I liked Charlie and Meg - although personally I liked Charlie best. Honestly my biggest issue with this book was the freaking name. Schock Sisters - that c really put me off. It drove me mental every time I saw it written, particularly since one of the Goodreads cover pictures has it written as shock. I kept thinking I'm going mad. Look it's probably a minor thing but it was my biggest issue.

There were no real surprises through this. I guessed pretty early on who was responsible but it was interesting nonetheless. There's a touch of romance between Charlie and JJ but it's a side plot and a minor side plot at that.

I liked the relationship between Meg and Charlie. They always had each others back and it was nice to see they were close with their parents as well. Meg needs to learn to calm down though and not get so attached that it consumes her entire being. I get caring, I don't get whatever she was doing. It was full on with panic attacks. I prefer Charlie's way of doing things with her distance and objectivity.

I can't wait to read the next one but for this one, 4 stars.

DESCRIPTION, NOT REVIEW: **Action, adventure, and second-chance romance are on the books for these two in the eleventh installment in the best-selling SCVC Taskforce Romantic Suspense Series!

She’s on the run, and he’s tasked with bringing her in…dead or alive.

Undercover FBI agent Samantha Rosenthal is on the run. A fugitive wanted for a terrorist act she didn’t commit, she has no idea who set her up, and the one person she still trusts is her ex, sexy Joseph Cahill. The problem? He’s the bounty hunter assigned to bring her in.

Joe knows everything about Sam—the way she talks in her sleep, how her damn fine body responds to his, her extreme intelligence and cunning street smarts. This apprehension should be a slam dunk. But it’s been seven long months since he’s seen her, held her, kissed her. Now she’s on the run from Homeland, the FBI, and the SCVC Taskforce. If he doesn’t hunt her down, someone else will…and they’ll use deadly force.

Laying her heart on the line, Sam has no choice but to ally with Joe to uncover a conspiracy that will clear her name but rock the FBI. Risking everything, Joe puts his career, as well as his freedom, in jeopardy, and dives head—and heart—into bringing Sam home alive.

I love a good thriller and when there is romance included in the plot it only gets better. Misty Evans does a masterful job of keeping the reader on the edge of their seats while unraveling the President's dangerous plan to create super soldiers.
The characters are wonderfully written and you can't help but hope they will be able to get to the bottom of the plot and come out alive. I enjoyed this book so much I immediately ordered the next book in the series and can't wait to start it.

3rd Tango by Adrienne Giordano & Misty Evans
Schock Sisters Mystery #3

Met & Charlie Schock find themselves hired by their mother to solve a case. Their mother is sure that the man across the street is a criminal serial murderer and has been keeping track of this man for decades. The family have been humoring her about the theories but suddenly find themselves researching to see if there is a grain of truth in their mother’s theory. Will they find anything that hints of murder of perhaps finally talk their mother into giving up and moving on?

This book has a mystery to solve, romance between the sisters and their men, a peek into the family life of the sisters and the solving of a few cold cases before the book ends. NOTE: I believe you will enjoy this book more if you have read the previous books first because you will know who the men in the lives of the sisters are and have more of their backstory.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in the series? Yes

2nd Strike by Misty Evans & Adrienne Giordano
A Schock Sisters Mystery #2

GREAT SERIES! I really do love this sister duo that run their own private investigation service! Both women are very different from one another but sisters to the bone with a deep love for one another and willing to do what it takes to not only get the job done but keep the other safe.

At the end of book one a teenage boy is waiting for them outside their office with a request for them to find out why his DNA results say he is not his parents child. The fact that he had been a kidnapping victim when a month old, found years later and returned but was not with his own parents needed to be explained to him. So, even though coming off a serial killer case, Charlie and Meg Schock are curious and definitely on the case. If Ethan is not Ethan then where is the real Ethan and who is the boy that has been called ethan for the past nearly eight years?

The mystery is eventually solved with more than one baddie exposed as each sister takes a chapter, tells the story from her perspective and does her part to solve the case.

What I liked:
* The plot and story telling
* Charlie: very strong and as the older sister, wanting to take charge and keep her sister Meg safe
* Meg: a bit more laid back, an artist and prone to anxiety attacks – she is willing to take on whatever to keep Charlie safe
* JJ Carrington: Meg’s love interest who is also a lawyer and the DA
* Jerome: Meg’s friend, an artist, an interesting man who has the potential to be more to Meg in the future
* Ethan – both of them – great young men that I hope we will hear more about in the future
* The various supporting characters – eager to hear more about them in the future
* The bad guys getting their comeuppance

What I didn’t like:
* The baddies
* Not knowing exactly what will happen to the two young men at the base of this story – who will they end up with? Will they spend time together in the future? What will happen to them?
* Having to wait till book three comes out to find out what happens next.

Did I enjoy this book? Definitely
Do I want to read more in this series? Without a doubt

Thank you to the Adrienne Giordano for the ARC – This is my honest review.

1st Shock, Schock Sister Mysteries, by Misty Evans and Adrienne Giordano

1st in a series.
Alternating chapters told in first person present tense.
A forensic reconstruction sculptor and a forensic psychologist set of sisters own an investigation firm. They take on cold cases many as probono. In this story the sisters investigate a potential serial killer.

The two sister have distinctive personalities and methods of working making their depth a core element throughout the building tension. The steady pace amps up to frantic and anxious near the end. The last page leads directly to the next case / book for the sisters.

I enjoyed this mystery and look forward to more of the sisters investigations.

Side note: The original mention of one of the sisters wearing Louboutins made me think “privileged”. Does the average female FBI agent have the money to spend on designer brands? The later described reason of a coping mechanism and that she donates money and time sounded like a way to equalize their status back to the average middle income family. I feel the explanation fell short. Either own it or don’t include the thing you need to beg forgiveness for later.

1st Shock by Adrienne Giordano & Misty Evans
Schock Sisters Mystsery #1

Excellent new series that finished with the bad guy caught but left me eager to pick up the second book as soon as it is available! I loved Charlie and Meg and the sisterly bond they share. The fact that they both ended up working together to solve cold cases, put faces and names to the unknown, catch bad guys and solve other mysteries was interesting. Their love for one another is obvious throughout the book and it is nice to see and also reminds me of my bond with my sister...though we do NOT solve murder mysteries ;) Meg and Charlie are not cut from the same mold but both are bright, focused, capable and willing to do what it takes to find justice for their “clients”.

What I liked:
* The bond between the sisters
* JJ Carrington – he is a nice addition though he has an issue he really should get taken care of...and Charlie can hardly wait till he does so!
* Matt: the man who works with them that is a bit like a little brother
* There were other supporting characters – would like to get to know them more as the series progresses
* The way the story is told by Charlie and Meg in alternating chapters
* The plotting and mystery held till late in the book as to who the serial murderer was

What I didn’t like:
* Only what I was meant not to – the bad guys, of course ;)

Did I enjoy this book? YES!
Would I like to read more in the series? Without a doubt

Thank you to the authors for the ARC – This is my honest review.

While I liked Jena and Noah (second chance romance FTW!), loved watching Queen B in action as always, and the "whodunit" aspect of the story kept me guessing, Risk isn't going to be my hands-down favorite of the series. There was a bit more waffling than felt necessary throughout--are they back together, or aren't they? Will Jena and Noah continue on their current career paths, or choose a path that will allow them to go forward together more easily? Just when I thought they'd decided, it became clear that these questions were up in the air again, and it was frustrating at times.

Still, there were more individual bits here that I liked than ones than I didn't. Jena and Noah were good together, and I enjoyed their interactions with many of the secondary characters as well. (Ash and Kaitlyn? There must be a book there, surely! ;)) The HEA felt well-earned, and though I was sure that things weren't exactly as they seemed throughout the suspense plot, I didn't have it all figured out before the truth was revealed. Better yet, Ms. Evans appears to be setting us up for yet another spin-off series--with spies, nonetheless!--which will definitely have me haunting her website to see when the first book will be released. (Not until 2019, according to the back of this book. Here's to hoping the time will fly between now and then!)

Absolutely loved!

I've really enjoyed so many (okay...all) of the books in this series, but seriously, Jackie and Beck's story tops them all--second chance romance at its best! (Plus, as a bonus, Mitch shows up several times, wearing his trademark smart-aleck t-shirts. I. Love. Mitch. Even though I'd probably want to smother him with a pillow IRL. IDK how Caroline puts up with him...he's so...Mitch.)

Jackie and Beck had me from the very first page, and I honestly didn't want to put the book down until I was sure that they'd not only survive everything that Ms. Evans and Ms. Giordano threw at them but that they'd also manage to find their HEA in the end. And oh my goodness, did they ever get things thrown at them--just when you thought there couldn't possibly be one more disastrous thing added to their very full plate, you found out just how wrong you were! Fortunately, the authors made everything all right in the end--but whoa, it was pretty tense for a while there, like for about 281 pages... ;)

Defending Justice would work just fine as a standalone--Beck and Jackie's story doesn't at all involve any of the other stories in the series. Several of the other series characters show up throughout, but you don't have to have read their stories to enjoy them here.

Just when you think you've dodged a bullet and avoided having sex with your boss' soon-to-be cougar ex-wife who bought you in a charity auction, you are arrested in the middle of the night for her murder. And who strolls in to defend you - unannounced, unrequested, and unwanted - but an old flame from a fabulous, never-to-be forgotten weekend fling in college. And that's not the only big surprise, but you'll need to read this latest Justice Series book, Defending Justice, to find out.

Defending Justice, Book 7 in The Justice Team Series by Adrienne Giordano & Misty Evans, takes off running and never slows down. Beckett Pearson is a former model and football star, and an FBI Special Agent. Jackie DelRay is a former prosecutor turned defense attorney, known for her toughness. Beck and Jackie have history both professional and private, secrets and animosity between them. Beck doesn't want anything to do with Jackie, but his career, and possibly his life, are on the line and she might be his one hope at staying out of prison. She needs to see justice done and is determined to save him.

As always, the Justice Team promises - and delivers - a thrilling story packed with action, passion, danger, romance, snappy dialogue and a lot of humor. The scene where Josh walks in while Beck and Jackie are "at" her desk had me laughing. And I really want to meet Mini-Beck.

The story is set amidst the Washington, D.C. backdrop of political alliances, greed, corruption and murder. It's fast-paced with suspense and twists that you don't see coming but with a satisfying resolution. The characters are well-developed and believable. Jackie and Beck are stubborn and at times reckless but oh, so likeable, and the tension between them, sexual and otherwise, sizzles.

I am a fan of the Justice Team and highly recommend this latest adventure. I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review; my review is completely honest and voluntary. Go to the website and read all the books. You won't be sorry.

Fatal Thrill, the latest in Misty Evans' SEALs of Shadow Force series, is a romantic suspense that took this reader in so many unexpected directions--I never knew from one chapter to the next where Jaya and Jon were going to end up! Ruined castles, stolen heirlooms, gypsies, Native Americans, caves full of a serial killer's victims' bones--they're all here, and more. Plus, just about every other Shadow Force couple makes an appearance here (with baby Shelby in tow!), adding to the fun. (Former SEALs cuddling a seven-month-old baby. I'm not sure how my ovaries survived the reading of this... ;))

I haven't had a chance yet to read book five in the series ( Fatal Vision --the only one I've missed so far!), which is apparently when Jaya and Jon met, so it did feel a bit as if I was joining their story midway. In terms of the suspense storyline, this was definitely a standalone; but seeing their squee-worthy HEA here, you'd better believe I'll be checking out how those two got started by reading Colton and Shelby's book ASAP.

If you want riveting action and sizzling sexual tension, Missing Justice is for you. Missing Justice is Book 7 in The Justice Team Series by Adrienne Giordano & Misty Evans. I was given an ARC for an honest review. This review is completely honest and voluntary.

Both Matt and Taylor are high achievers trying to deal with tragedy in their separate pasts. He is a private investigator and she is a rising star with the FBI. They have some history together. Not good history. She believes he poached one of her cases and won’t let it go. But in addition to the history, there is also an undeniable attraction between them, always simmering just below the surface. They meet again by chance and finally give in to the desire. What can a one-night stand hurt? It’s not like they work together or have to ever see each other again.

However, it turns out they are working together, on opposite sides of trying to solve a murder. Matt believes his client is innocent, while Taylor believes he is the murderer. As they begin to share information – and danger – they become closer and closer, both professionally and personally.

This is a terrific story, with non-stop action and suspense, humor, sexy times and likeable characters that you can’t help but want to end up together. The sparks are there. Taylor is closed off and wary. Matt already knows he wants more. He’s the strong, not-so-silent type, and oh so sweet. You are drawn in from the first and know Matt and Taylor so belong together, so when they are in more and more danger you can hardly take a breath. The cast of supporting characters keeps you guessing – neither Taylor’s nor Matt’s bosses like them working together and you are on the edge of your seat trying to figure out who could be the murderer from the old case and who is trying to kill Matt and Taylor now.

I read some of Adrienne Giordano’s Private Protectors series books and thoroughly enjoyed them, but this was my first adventure with The Justice Team. It certainly won’t be my last. I intend to go back and start at the beginning of this series, and I highly recommend you do the same.

Wow – Misty Evans has certainly made the arrival of Cal and Beatrice’s baby one to remember! With all the action, suspense, and heart of the rest of the SFI series, this novella has everything you would expect when it comes to birth of Cal & B’s baby!

It's always special when your baby's birth happens and you and your new family are surrounded by people you love...and it’s even more special when those people you love can protect you from the crazy terrorist who has shown up in the middle of the delivery seeking revenge. Leave it to Cal and B to deliver a baby in the middle of a gunfight – I would have expected nothing less! And as usual B steals the show…

One of the things I love best about this series is how Misty Evans weaves her characters in and out of the books. It is always a treat to catch up with characters who have been featured in other books as well as get to know some new ones. I loved meeting Connor and Sabrina, two SFI team members who find their way to one another during this novella. They each have an interesting background and I hope we get to learn more about them in upcoming books in the series – *dish, Misty – what’s up with the September 12 group that Connor keeps referring to?*

This is a quick read with great writing that will pull you in and have you finishing it in one sitting. Even though this one is a bit heavier on the suspense/action side, the undercurrent of emotion between Cal and B and the beginning of the romance between Connor and Sabrina balance out all the gunfire and explosions. And the ending made me all warm and smiley inside.

Although this can be read as a stand-alone, I would recommend starting this series from the beginning so you have a better understanding of the relationship between the characters.

When I purchased this set, I had already read 2 of the books, Katie's and Kaylea's. I wasn't expecting much because most sets, especially $0.99, give you novellas and firsts in a series. MAN was I WRONG!!! I now have 8 new favorite authors to add to my list. Each book was a full on suck you in and keep you there until you finished. There were nights that I couldn't put my kindle down until I was finished with that book. Some of the books made me cry, some made me laugh and all were action packed. Totally worth the 99 pennies!!!

This action packed suspense had it all. Romantic suspense fans be sure to add this one to your reading list.

From the opening scene of a undercover young FBI agent seducing and arresting the man every alphabet soup agency wanted to again having to bring him down after he escaped and caused so much death in her life you are glued to the pages.

Celina Davenport is just a rookie FBI agent but managed to get herself a potential career changing undercover job with SCVC if she can bring down the mafia leader. What got her through the undercover op was she would finally be able to act on her crush on the leader of the SCVC taskforce and join his team. What she got after the arrest was neither of those. She was turned down by him and then sent off to a small FBI office in Iowa after her face was plastered over Time magazine ruining her chances of undercover work ever again.

DEA Agent Cooper Harris was impressed with Celina’s work and did find himself attracted to her but being her senior from both a work stand point and in age he refused to give into the young FBI’s infatuation and walked away. Then 6 months later there worlds collide again in Iowa on an op that collides between the FBI and DEA. Not soon after its found out that Emilio the Mafia leader she helped put in prison has escaped and is coming for her but not before he kills the ones she cares about. The killer is ruthless in some of the ways he takes her friends down – I mean like in cringe worthy eww moments (love getting those moments). Cooper vows he will do everything to protect Celina which turns out to be harder than he thought in many ways. This book had every ingredient I look for in a romantic suspense/thriller book and I loved it.

Carolyn Crane - Against the Dark - This was a fast paced action book with plenty of smexy moments. Agents whose main strengths are their brains but yet still have plenty of brawn make up The Associates. Cole Hawkins has been working undercover to gather information on a shipment of children being shipped over internationally to be used and killed. While on assignment he meets a woman who turns out to be a safecracker whose specialty in safes happens to be the one he needs into to get the name and location of the ship. This was defiantly a different take on the typical bad ass alpha males you typically read in these type of books. Cole’s nerdyness was cute while still having plenty of alpha ways.

Pamela Clare - Skin Deep - Both Megan Hunter and Nathaniel West had been through hell in their lives.
Megan being bounced around the system that didn’t protect her that got her thrown in juvie at such a young age only to be raped repeatedly over and over. After surviving that she finally meets her brother but one of the guards that had been part of her rape turns out to be someone her brother works with and she shoots him. After running and her brother taking the rap for her she ends up addicted to heroin and pregnant and in jail where she has her baby. After a lot more drama Megan now has custody of her daughter and a job and the love and support of her brother and sister in law. But she has never forgiving herself for her past and doesn’t think she will ever be able to let a man touch her without remembering the past.

Nate was in the Marines and stationed in Afghanistan when his team was on their way back was hit by an IED. The right side of his body from his ear to his leg had sustained second and third degree burns. He lost many good friends in the blast and even the ones that did manage to survive some took their own lives after due to the horrific damage to their bodies. His fiancé left him due to not being to handle the way he looked now. Nate ended up going back to live with his father and working with horses and living a sheltered life away from others so they wouldn’t be disgusted with the way he looked.

Both Megan and Nat had the same views about themselves. Neither could imagine anyone loving them the way they were. Megan had the hardest time dealing with this strange attraction to a man. I loved how Pamela compared it to the intense longing for heroin but instead of it being something dark and desperate is was something pure and clean. Many addicts are surprised in there sobriety that they can actually feel emotions like that and it not be for something bad. Nate couldn’t image a woman looking at him and not cringing at all of his scars. Our hero wore his scars and the outside and our heroine wore hers on the inside. It was very touching to see that the two of them were like the antibiotic the other needed to heal.

I have to also say that I loved the wedding epilogue was sooo touching that it brought tears to my eyes and I wasn’t even actually here.

Misty Evans – Deadly Pursuit - This action packed suspense had it all. Romantic suspense fans be sure to add this one to your reading list.

Agents Cooper & Celina have differing agendas for their romantic weekend at a vineyard/bed & breakfast. Cooper is trying to find a romantic time & place to propose to Celina. Celina is trying to figure out how to tell Cooper that she's pregnant. The new experiences are tending to make them both nervous & off their game. At the time & place Cooper had selected to propose, Celina spots a body in the debris from a landslide. Can they find the killer? What about their own secrets?

This is the first book of the SCVC Taskforce series that I have read. I really enjoyed it. Amy & Misty did an excellent job of co-writing. There was so much action & excitement crammed into such a short story. The writers did a good job of establishing a connection between the reader & the characters with the secrets needing to be revealed. The pace was fast & intense. The chemistry between Cooper & Celina was hot & sexy. Excellent romantic suspense & I would recommend it to anyone liking this genre. I have been a fan of Amy's writing & I can see that I need to check out some books by Misty.

Another great read that was impossible to put down. This series is quickly becoming one of my favorites – great characters and a great balance of romance, intrigue and suspense are wrapped up in some fantastic dialogue and a wonderful world that sets the stage for a fantastic read.

One thing you know is always guaranteed when you pick up a Misty Evan’s book is that there will be not only wonderfully developed main characters, but the secondary characters and even the bad guys are always well thought out and developed. And being a series, it is nice to have the chance to see many recurring characters that give each story additional depth.

Jax and Ruby are quite the pair. When they end up in bed and then have the mission they are working on together go all sorts of wrong, they may part ways, but neither can get the other out of their head. Now that Jax has left the SEALs and joined SFI he finds himself assigned to a case that leads him right back to Ruby…and he is going to help her whether she wants him to or not!

One of the things I loved most about this story was that it didn’t take long for both Jax and Ruby to admit that they wanted one another, even if they didn’t share that info right away with each other. There may have been some obstacles in the way and, especially for Ruby, there may have been some things that needed resolution first, but I liked the fact that they both knew what they wanted, which kept the angst level low and allowed the intrigue and suspense of their current predicament take the lead – which in my opinion is what made this such a great read. There were also some great lighter moments in the book which had me laughing out loud, and I especially loved when Jax and Ruby got caught in a compromising position in that B&B…too funny!

I can’t say enough about the secondary characters in this book. Beatrice is one of my all-time favorite heroines and it’s always fun to see her interact with the current hero. And of course her being 9+ months pregnant just added even more to the story. The other members of the SFI team always play some role that adds additional depth and also a bit of humor to each story as well, and I love catching up with them to see what they have been up to.

Fatal Courage is the third installment of the Shadow Force International series and can be read as a stand-alone, but I would recommend starting this series from the beginning to meet the other members of the team since they have all been great reads. Misty Evans always delivers an extremely well written book filled with just the right mix of romance, intrigue, suspense, and action that should appeal to just about anyone!

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

REVIEW: A thoroughly enjoyable read. There were enough twists to keep it interesting. The main characters have flaws but their strengths pull them through. Looking forward to more in this series.
DESCRIPTION, NOT REVIEW: She’s an investigative reporter who lives to uncover the truth.

Feisty television host Savanna Bunkett exposes government cover-ups on her award-winning show, The Bunk Stops Here. When she digs into a rumor about a top-secret government project that's producing “super soldiers” for the president, she suddenly finds herself on an assassin’s hit list.

He's the man who knows the truth.

Navy SEAL Lieutenant Trace Hunter is the only soldier to survive Project 24. After refusing a direct order from the president, he was branded a traitor, and his career imploded after the sexy reporter turned him into a national headline. He now works undercover for Shadow Force International, a secret group of former SEALs helping those who have nowhere else to turn, using his enhanced skills to fight for justice and protect the innocent. His first assignment? Protect Savanna from the one man who wants them both dead—the president.

One wrong move and they’ll be silenced forever.

Helping Savanna is the last thing Trace wants to do, but her unwavering determination to expose the president's dark truth matches his own. She's his one chance to set the record straight, and he’s her only chance at survival. When their mutual enemy closes in, can they put the past behind them and trust each other? Even if it means losing their hearts in the process? Or will secrets, lies, and forbidden passions cost them everything?

Favorite of the series so far! So many twists and turns and layers of truth and lies--not to mention an off-the-charts romance--I just didn't want to put this one down.

I absolutely loved Jax and Ruby. They have a past (including a history of taking time out of their regularly-scheduled saving of the world to do [ahem] *other* things, which they continue here--it was hot, though neither terribly responsible nor believable...but did I mention it was hot? ;)) and at the beginning of the book are very much at odds. She's still on probation because of their last encounter, and he's been sent to find her former partner at the CIA and bring him in--they're not exactly enemies, but there's not exactly a lot of love floating around between them.

But oh, there is a heck of a lot of lust...

As Jax and Ruby get further drawn into the plot, trust begins to develop and lust turns into something more. Ruby is introduced to a lot of the rest of the SFI crew (OMG, I love the dynamics in this group! Absolutely fabulous; even if you haven't read the previous stories, you'd be hard pressed not to love the way they all interact with each other), especially Beatrice (heroine of Deadly Force ), who's a few days past when she was due to give birth to her and Cal's first child and just as scary as ever. Seriously. I love these people.

The last 20% of the book has to be some of the most on-the-edge-of-my-seat reading I've ever experienced--honestly, I don't think even a tornado could have made me put my ereader down once I passed the 80% mark. I mean, I was pretty sure Ruby and Jax were going to make it through, but why tempt fate by letting them out of my sight, right?

Colton's story's next, and we're left up in the air (ha! okay, so maybe *we're* not up in the air, but someone is, LOL) about Beatrice and Cal's baby. There's a link in the afterward for readers to vote on the gender--run! Though now I'm more anxious than ever for the next book in the series to come out... (Fatal Love--not until January. Sigh!)

Rating: 4 1/2 stars / A-

For a short story this had a lot of substance. Sara wants to become an FBI agent but first she has to pass a test she does not know she is taking. I really did like this and I also like that that the relationship within the book was not rushed. Cute way to pass the time!

Too short. Though I got a clear impression of Misty Evan's writing. Wow!. In this very short, short story she was able to introduce and develop her characters so completely I could see them in my mind's eye. One very fast and enjoyable read. This glimpse of her writing makes me want to read more. I will be looking for more of her books.
