Inside a polygamous cult led by a faith healer whose extreme narcissism makes him a dangerous villain, triplets are born to one of his many wives. Their mother, wanting to save her three newborn daughters from life of the enclosed community and the crazed with power man who fathered them, manages to send her babies away immediately after their birth. But she is unable to save herself and he kills her. This is how the story begins and from the very start of this story I detested the villain and wanted so much for the babies to escape their father and never have to see him again.

But one of the babies, Elizabeth, isn't well and has to be left at a nearby hospital where her father can get his clutches on her again. Ivy and Amber are then raised by loving adoptive parents and the woman who rescued them. They are trained to fight and to hide, while their sister is raised by their father who is a vengeful man. Their father has been looking for them but they escape detection until Ivy discovers she has the same power to heal as her father. But with such power comes responsibility and it may exact a price. When she ignites her sister Amber's power to channel the dead, both girls may find such powers can be both a gift and a curse. And when their adoptive parents are taken they are determined to rescue them and their sister Elizabeth by entering the community stepping right into their fathers clutches.

This YA is not the light and fluffy sort but a thought provoking and exciting story which is hard to put down. You'll want to read book two to find out what happens next and if you are like me, you'll be hoping their father finds that karma bus heading toward him at high speed.

Imagine a narcissistic cult leader who has the power of healing in his hands along with the power of death from that same touch. Zachariah Williams is that man. His cult also practices polygamy. When one of his young wives gives birth to triplets he kills her after finding out she was going to try and leave with the children after giving birth. Abigail's cousin who was also trapped in the cult managed to escape with the 3 girls and this is their story.

Now its 16 years later and 2 of the girls were raised learning military practices. Ivy has also trained for years in martial arts. Ivy and Amber have had to live their whole life in fear that their father would find them and force them back to the cult. Their “adoptive” parents along with Patricia (their mom's cousin) have done their best to train the girls if that were to ever happen. Since their 16th birthdays Ivy has come to realize she has the power of healing just as her father does. This is where the title of the book comes from – Ivy is the Keeper of the Light and when her powers come into play this triggers her sister Amber's power which is to channel the dead.

As the girls are 16 this book has plenty of YA angst but its so much more. Ivy is a bit hung up on Gabe, a boy she grew up with, which occupies more of her thoughts than she should be letting especially since there have been a couple of attempts to kidnap the girls lately. Even though this leans toward being a YA its very serious in nature. The author doesnt hold back on showing the ugliness of a cult that is being led by a madman with paranormal powers. There are plenty of twist through out this book. Where the 3rd sister has been all this time. Who Gabe and his cousin Ryan really are. As this series is about the 3 sisters the problems are not concluded in this book but by then your invested in the girls story and looking forward to the next book which will be Ivy's who has now become Keeper of the Dead.
