The cattle towns por Robert Rozeboom Dykstra
As I only skimmed this book, I am not going to give it a rating. The scholarship looked on point, but my interest was in cowboys of color, which was not the central content of this book. I did find it interesting to see the author's assertion that cities were developed quite consciously from competing towns and villages, with the character shaped by developers advertising for a certain kind of resident. Interesting.
Short histories, playing up the violence, of the various towns where cattle got shipped to the east in the 1870's. Competent prose.
