“All Hail the Power” is an original arrangement, set for concert band, of the
hymn “All Hail the Power of Jesus Name”. I chose this hymn because it was one of my
favorites and I thought that I could add something to it without taking away from the
original composition. The purpose of this arrangement was to challenge middle school
and young high school students musically and technically and also provide a fun piece to
play for all the musicians. The ranges of the instrument are attainable by most middle
school bands. There are some excellent chances to teach sixteenth note rhythms in the
trumpet and percussion parts and the hymn section at the end allows for the conductor to
teach the group about blend and balance.
The arrangement was recorded by the North Forsyth High School Concert Band.
The band was made up of mainly ninth and tenth graders who started in sixth grade. The
ensemble received this piece enthusiastically and because of that enthusiasm the students
were engaged in the rehearsal.… (más)
