This book gave me strong deja vu vibes back to the book Black Beauty. It went thru the learning process and explanations of humans and their tools & ways in much the same way. While not as simplistic as BB--I'm sure it was meant for an entirely different audience, it pointed out man's inhumanity to animals in a similar fashion.

Previous reviewers said they saw the ending coming. I certainly did not, and am happier for it. I felt the ending wrapped up the story quite nicely. Most of the books I read today are part of a series so the gratification of a completely satisfying ending was refreshing. Unlike so many series conclusions single volume stories don't have the problem of so much having gone on with so many characters that it's hard to completely close the door on a story.

I recommend this to anyone looking for a good dragon story or good fantasy story. It sits firmly, IMO, in YA territory, but should be enjoyable by adults since there is nothing childish about it.

I loved this story! It entertained me. In fact, I could not put it down... and I was listening to the Audible version. I sat in the grocery store parking lot for 20 minutes waiting to get to a part where I could force myself to stop the audio so I could go in and shop.
I smiled, I laughed, I cried, I was fearful, hopeful, angry... such a wild ride of emotion.
I absolutely loved hearing from the dragon's perspective. Brilliant.
Towards the last 1/3 of the book a plot begins to develop that I could clearly see coming to fruition. I was slightly disappointed that it was so easy to figure out, yet I was still mystified as to what Stormfall was going to do, once he learned what I knew. I was almost sick about it, and wondered if I could finish the book, or if I should just put it down forever.
But I had to know.
So I finished the book and the author did not disappoint. This is no "happily ever after" tale, and yet there is resolution, and it works. I still have a little lump in my throat and tears that spring too easily to my eyes as I recall the events leading up to the ending. Yet, I am quite satisfied.
My only sorrow now is that there is no Book 2 to move on to, for I grew to love Stormfall and Rue (sorry- I listened on Audible so I don't know if these are correct spellings. I'll come back and correct as soon as I figure that out.)
I don't know if there is another dragon tale out there that can possibly fill the void I now feel.

Steampunk Britain in 1888 and Jack the Ripper is at large. Ivy Savage, writer, after receiving a heart in the post is sent away by her policeman father to stay with her fiancée brother in the north - the 'mad Lord'. Liked the supernatural aspects with the mad Lord. Lots of characters, too many words, and not really a surprise for the ending as the Ripper is chased in London.
A NetGalley book,

This imaginative book takes us to a Steampunk London where Jack the Ripper stalks the streets, ghosts demand justice, and our brave heroine writes novels to escape into a world she can control. There's a lot going on in this book, both in the characters' personal lives and in the streets of the city, but all is interwoven into a fast-paced story about family, love, murder, and loyalty. I really enjoyed it! Highly recommended.
