Make no mistake. The author of this work was no simple farmer from Pennsylvania as the title suggests. In fact, John Dickinson was a lawyer, a statesman, a representative of the Continental Congress and a draftsman of the Articles of Confederation.

With that in mind, this is a brief political work that simply and effectively argues against the British attempts to tax the colonies without their consent (i.e., no taxation without representation) in any form, either directly or disguised as duties, and in any amount.
