A book that is simple entertainment. I liked the characters, and I laughed out loud in several places. There was Suspense, and I wondered how the book would end, but it was perfect. This is the first in a long series.

Good book that kept me guessing to the end. Alaina is a lawyer who, along with her two sisters, has inherited a house in the tiny town of Calais, Louisiana. She and her sisters were separated and sent away by their stepfather after their mother died. The stepfather has recently died, and the terms of their mother's will state that each girl must live in the house for two weeks before they can inherit. Alaina had just been passed over for a promised promotion at work and decided to take those two weeks to reevaluate her future.

Carter is the sheriff of Calais and, as a favor to a family friend, agreed to supervise Alaina's adherence to the terms of the will. As a cop, the last thing he wants to do is babysit a big city defense lawyer. He's none too happy when his first glimpse of Alaina triggers an unwelcome attraction. But when strange things happen, he's determined to keep her safe.

The suspense of this story kept me hooked from start to finish. Strange sounds, evidence that someone has been in the house with her, topped off by a possible ghost, have Alaina and Carter on edge. Then, they learn that trouble may have followed her from Baton Rouge. This story had multiple twists, sometimes with more questions than answers, as they tried to identify the culprit. The building tension kept me glued to the pages with a surprising conclusion. Though the immediate mystery was solved, some unanswered questions remain for the following books in the series.

I enjoyed watching the development of Alaina and Carter's relationship. Neither was looking for it, but the sparks between them were undeniable. Carter is a good guy who takes his job seriously. Despite the professional antipathy between cops and defense lawyers, he finds it easy to connect with Alaina. He is protective while still respecting her abilities and independence. Alaina is strong and independent, but she isn't stupid. I liked that she didn't take unnecessary risks. Carter and Alaina grew closer as they worked together to identify the threat, but initially, they weren't looking at a future together. But when the final confrontation was over, they realized they didn't want to be apart.

I'm curious now to read the other books and see how the series turns out.

The 2nd of the Miss Fortune books, just as funny as the first. I wasn't sure how the second one would go, considering all we learned at the end of the first book, but it was surprisingly good.

I absolutely enjoyed reading the second book in the Fortune series. I had a hard time putting it down. I physically laughed out loud several times. I want to be apart of group with Ida Belle, Gertie and Fortune. On to the next book in the series and hang out with humorous mystery.

Again had me laughing out loud in the middle of the night. I had to get up and wipe my eyes from laughing. This book is so much fun to read. The antics they get into and the back stories are great as well.

This was a five star read until the very end. I loved so much of it, but the twist wasn’t handled well in my opinion. It was original and unexpected, and I can discount that it was great, but the writing surrounding it suffered. I really don’t want to wreck the ending, as it was a great book, but I just wish some things had changed.

This was a FREE ebook through Barnes and Noble for the NOOK. But, I don't own a NOOK anymore. It went kaput. I need to work on reading the books I do own on the NOOK that I can read now only from my NOOK app on my iPhone.

I downloaded this little FREEeBook because of the title and cutsie cover. What a super cute and funny mystery! It got a few chuckles from me. This is the first in a series of 14 stories about Miss Fortune...(misfortune). Finally, a series I wouldn't mind reading over time. The next book is called Lethal Bayou Beauty and is now on my TBR list.

Redding is a tough chick with short blond hair who works for the CIA. But when she botches a drug transaction with one of the toughest drug lords out there, and kills his sister with the point of her stiletto, they want her dead or alive.

Her boss, Morrow, decides to send her away in hiding for a little while in a small podunk town in Sinful, Louisiana, to take the place of his niece, Sandy Sue Morrow, who was a librarian, a knitter and a beauty queen. Redding hates it all, especially the name Sandy Sue. So, she makes up a nickname...Fortune, claiming it a nickname her mother had given her, saying she was going to be worth a fortune when she got older because of her beauty. But, turns out she does have a lot of mishaps in the town of Sinful and the Sinful Ladies Society start to call her Miss Fortune (misfortune).

First, the good-looking Deputy Carter LeBlanc caught her tossing her shoes in the bayou when one heel broke off. Then, he caught her trying to kill an alligator in the middle of the night that she thought was the loud frog's eyes glowing. The human bone was found in her yard, and she was seen eating lunch with the troublesome Sinful ladies, Gertie and Ida Belle. She tried to sneak to Gertie's house by crossing over a fenced yard, which happened to be the deputy's yard and got some fake blonde locks caught in his bushes. When she returned to retrieve them through the bushes, his rottweiller dog had the other end. All in just a couple of days into her stay.

Instead of lying low, she got wrapped up with the old Sinful ladies in trying to solve the murder of Harvey, an abusive millionaire husband to one of the town's ladies. Lots of comical twists and turns, but, darn, no romance between her and the good-looking deputy.

The second installment in the Miss Fortune mystery series, Lethal Bayou Beauty, is light, quick, and hilarious with a decent mystery thrown in. Those who like Connie Shelton's Heist Ladies or Stephanie Plum should enjoy this series.
Fortune Redding, who is hiding out from a CIA mission gone bad, has help again from the Geritol mafia to find out who killed the resident beauty queen. Hijinx ensue!
The quirky characters, humor, and strong, supportive bonds between the women are a delight. Can't wait to get to the next one!

A paranormal cozy mystery featuring a scientist who is being haunted by her ex mother in law.

Maryse Robicheaux was left holding the debts when her husband fled after 30 days of marriage. In order to pay off the loan sharks, she made a deal with the devil - her mother in law, Helena Henry.

For two years Maryse has been biding her time waiting for a chance to serve her husband with divorce papers and finally be rid of the entire Henry family. And she gets her chance when Helena dies. Except, Helena Henry has been very busy plotting and she has no time for death. When she comes back as a ghost, she discovers Maryse is the only one able to see her and soon has her embroiled in all kinds of trouble.

This was pretty good. It's exactly what you'd expect of your cozy mystery with quirky characters, romance, humour and an interesting mystery. I liked that there were multiple plots and the lines of enquiry Maryse and her gang look into. Surprisingly, the main mystery Helena Henry's (the mother in law) murder is left unanswered. Apparently the investigation continues in the following books - so it's not a total standalone - but enough of my questions were answered for it to not bother me. Even if I don't ever pick up the rest of the series.

I didn't particularly enjoy the romance but it didn't take over the entire book so it was okay. It was very much your cheesy insta love with a few sex scenes towards the end. Luc was kind of a nothing character for the most part and Maryse reverted to a lovesick teenager around him. Can't say I really understood why either of them liked each other and I certainly didn't believe the love confessions at the end but meh. It is what it is.

The mystery was fairly straight forwards but had enough twists for me to enjoy and I was happy with the resolution of most of the plots. As for the characters, I liked Maryse and I loved Helena - she was hilarious. Sabine was interesting enough and I loved the name of her fortune telling store - Read 'em and Reap. Since she features in the next book with Helena I'll likely pick up the next few books to find out the answer of who murdered Helena and to enjoy the snarky humour Helena inspires.

3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.

Acton, laughter, and more action ..

Fortune and Swamp Team 3 are back in action as they search for a missing child found in the swamp.

Action, action, and more action combine with Fortune's plots to annoy Sheriff "Herpes" oh excuse me, that is Sheriff Hermes.

Sit back and laugh as Fortune, Ida Belle and Gertie work their magic.

Overall great introduction to the world and the characters.

The small town cast was hilarious and quirky, so many great side characters to work with, I can tell this is going to be a fun series.

The CIA bits were at times under researched but didn't pull me out of the story.

The mystery was well crafted and I loved the twist at the end. Make for a deeper dive into the back stories of the cast.

You'll love this book if you love cozies that are hilarious, and sleuths that have military training.

It's always something...

I loved the way the story flowed, and how seamlessly the storyline came together. Not necessarily non-stop action, but it was a good pace. Great characters; hope to read more stories with Fortune, Ida, and Gertie!

A new series/author for me. All I can say is: end of chapter one and my stomach hurts from laughing. I do believe I am going to enjoy this Fortune Redding character.

Chuckled and chortled my way through this one. Too many funny situations to pick a favorite. Fortune’s reaction to a typical southern town kept me entertained while she tried to figure out why the dog turned up human bones. With the assistance of the leading ladies of the local Women’s Auxiliary, Fortune works to unravel the mystery of the found bones. What remains to be seen is whether Fortune will survive the assistance offered by the twosome.
