This was a really, really good book. As much as I love AllRomance, my purchases there can sometimes be a crapshoot, but this one was definitely a winner. Taking place after an alien war that decimated much of the earth, the novel's focus is Areth Ambassador, John Smith and his initially reluctant bodyguard, Jenifer. Both characters are well developed and compelling. A wonderful cast of supporting characters is involved in connected plotlines, some of which will be continued in this series.

The stories of some of these supporting characters started in the Pheonix Rebellion series, which starts with [b:Revolution|7007484|Revolution (Phoenix Rebellion, #1)|Gail R. Delaney|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1255915148s/7007484.jpg|7252221]. I kind of wish I had realized that before, but it's not necessary to start there. The author introduces them nicely here, and this novel can easily stand alone, but I dare you to finish it without wanting to seek out Triad, the next volume.
