This book was written by Patti Davis who, if you do not know, is the daughter of Ronald Reagan.

It is sort of a Memoir and a Bio of her life. Let me tell you..there's alot to chew on here. I absolutely loved reading all about Patti Davis, who, if one does not know her story, is so different then what one would expect her to be like.

For people who do not like non fiction it will not be for them. But I read many Non Fiction and plenty of Memoirs and this is certainly up there. I really enjoyed this book and found Patty to be authentic, smart, sassy and very human

Obviously her politics are very different from her dad's. She grew up in Woodstock times an d was a bit of a hippy herself. She chronicles many of her relationships here as well. For example:

I did not know when I started reading this that Patti had a long term relationship with a member of the Eagles, which is also chronicled here. I happen to be a big fan of the Eagles AND a political junkie so this book absolutely worked for me!

But it is about family as well. The books runs the gamut and was so interesting. I really do recommend it to Non Fiction readers such as myself.

Highly recommended.

The things we humans can learn from observing animals can be amazing. Patti Davis, a previously non-cat person, found herself living with not one but two cats. And taking care of some other strays. How this all came about, and the interesting things she learned from them, are contained in this short volume. Twelve little stories and the life lessons she derived from them are liberally illustrated with charming pictures. This little book packs a lot of wisdom.

Het gaat niet om Macht het gaat om Overgave. Een fantische regel uit het boek wat eigenlijk dat zegt waar het boek om gaat. Een boek naar mijn hart. Een aanrader voor iedereen of je nu wel of geen D/s fan bent. Hoe ver ga jij?

"The Lives Our Mothers Leave Us" leads you to appreciate your mother and all of her flaws and quirks, and compels you to be the best mother you can be to your own children.

Quick amusing read. Short little vignettes about her cats and how they came to her, how they trained her in their ways, how they adjusted to change - each followed by a succinctly stated lesson learned. The illustrations by Ward Schumaker are fun and expressive. Nice gift for cat lovers

Disappointing, the characters were not very likable, the portrayal of BDSM was inaccurate, the ending depressing.½

The Lives Our Mothers Leave Us is a collection of short profiles featuring two dozen prominent women* reflecting on their mothers (and often, their grandparents). Though I would have enjoyed more diversity (it's mostly writers and actresses, mostly over age 50), it's a lovely collection -- the voices are gentle and insightful and proof that no matter how things seem on the surface, people’s lives and relationships -- especially daughters and mothers -- are full and complicated underneath. As a side note, I especially liked the startling moments when Patti Davis, in her interviews, discovers how her father's (Ronald Reagan) presidential policies affected some of these women's lives.

*in addition to Patti Davis: Rosanna Arquette, Candice Bergen, Diahann Carroll, Ruby Dee, Melissa Gilbert, Whoopi Goldberg, Marg Helgenberger, Mariel Hemingway, Alice Hoffman, Angelica Huston, Lorna Luft, Julianna Margulies, Mary Kay Place, Anna Quindlen, Anne Rice, Cokie Roberts, Carolyn See, Kathy Smith, Linda Bloodworth Thomason, Lily Tomlin, Faye Wattleton, Marianne Williamson, Carnie Wilson

This is very well read and gives wonderful insight into the progression of Alzheimer's disease. It's also an interesting and helpful account of a family who had widely differing political opinions yet loved and respected one another.

President's daughter writes kinky sex novel: it's obvious why Simon & Schuster would go for the idea. But had the author been anyone else, it's doubtful that this work would ever have seen print. The story has a few moments of note, but is no better than any amateur work you might find online. As for the titled subject, the author is clearly not writing from personal experience. When buying a travel guide to an exotic locale, a person usually expects that the author has at least visited the foreign land in question...½
