Jess Collins (1923–2004)

Being a choice of art works from collagist Jess, produced in the mid-twentieth century usually either by rearranging dialogue and art from well-known comics (hint: anagram the title) or by cuttings from Victorian sources. Aside from homoeroticism it is difficult to see themes in these; I was rarely certain if the art was designed to be funny, thought-provoking, or visually affecting, which in turn means that I didn't think that he hit any of those targets very consistently. Doubtless a very creative package, but for mine, nothing more than a decent browse. The physical format is usually all right, but some of the deconstructed comics are too small to be easily read.… (más)
