An unnamed narrator extols the virtue of being twins -- even when your twin is a giraffe when you are a human.

This book was unusual ... I guess I get the idea of twins not always looking alike, but this takes it a step further by doing different species for twins. I suppose it's meant to be humorous, but then the text is not really funny, so it doesn't quite work. I wasn't the hugest fan of this book overall, even if the story itself is meant to be sweet.

A black boy with a neat Afro and a giraffe are the non-identical twins in this book; the author/illustrator is the father of fraternal twin boys. The boy/giraffe illustrations heighten the humor of the types of things fraternal twins must face all the time: their own cooperation and squabbling, different likes and dislikes, and the ways people assume they are the same. Despite the occasional disagreement, both boy and giraffe mostly enjoy being a twin - and having one.

"Being a twin is great.
Sometimes our friends can't tell us apart."

This charming picture-book examines the life of twins (obviously fraternal), and describes some of the many things that they enjoy doing together. Although closely linked, twin siblings are never exactly alike, and often prefer to do things their own way. They may even quarrel with one another. That said, their close bond will always reassert itself, as they realize how wonderful it is to be a twin...

The father of fraternal twin boys himself, author/illustrator Mike Ciccotello makes his debut with Twins, which pairs a simple but engaging text with expressive illustrations. The depiction of the eponymous twins as a boy and a giraffe is an interesting choice, emphasizing just how very different twins can be, and allowing Ciccotello to create some amusing scenes. I frequently get asked for both twin books and giraffe books at work, and now have a fun new title to offer! Recommended to anyone looking for an entertaining and sometimes silly picture-book examination of being a twin.… (más)
