The presence of the Catholic Church in the United States reaches back to the founding days of our country through the leadership of Archbishop John Carroll, the first Catholic bishop in the United States. His story like the stories at the start of each chapter in the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults give us a glimpse into the lives of Catholics who lived out their faith throughout our country's history. The Catechism for Adults is an excellent resource for preparation of catechumens in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and for ongoing catechesis of adults.

This books is easy to read. It broadly covers Catholic beliefs, tradition, doctrine and practices. It pages at over 500 pages but that need not intimidate because it's an easy enjoyable read while being gently informative. The other aspect is that it provides, in most cases, more explanatory detail on the topics covered than does the Universal Catechism. However, it is not comprehensive in covering all Catholic teachings as is the Universal Catechism.

Post-Vatican II liturgical reform. A liberal view on music.

Good book to read. Good summary of the Catechism. It is the official US Catholic Bishops summary, so this is their official position. I would recommend it for anyone looking to understand the Catholic faith more. I would also get a copy of the Catechism as well.

Catholic Church study and teachings.

I use this book mostly for special occasions and seasonal prayers (i.e. Advent, Lent, etc.) As for daily prayers, though it has information on some of the basic prayers found in any prayer book (e.g. Hail Mary, etc.) it is lacking a lot of substance in that regard. It gives a sample of the Liturgy of the Hours, but you're better off buying the one volume set "Christian Prayer" published by the Catholic Book Publishing Company. As for a wider variety of daily prayers for general use, I recommend "Catholic Prayers" from Tan Books.

It's nice when you want a prayer and bible verse or two to celebrate various milestones and seasons. Yes, I know we could make up our own, but not everyone likes to do that.
